Our Marvelous Little Mule As many of you know some of our biggest problems are in getting medical, and school supplies into the high mountains of Honduras. Until recently we have had to rely on our horses to get the job done. Now we have a new tool and it is proving to be a great help in our endeavors. It is our Kawasaki Mule! This little beast goes anywhere! Like a golf cart on steroids "La Mulita"( " The Little Mule" ) has already been involved in several rescues as well as many mountain survey missions. She can cover over five times the distance that the horses can, ( although there are still many places that only the horses can reach ). The native Indians in the mountains get a real jolt out of seeing this strange vehicle appear out in the middle of nowhere. |
| We have to take great care not scare their livestock that have never seen a vehicle of any type. Everywhere we
go the children laugh and scream with joy as they jump in the back for a short ride. Everybody loves La Mulita.
She is the top subject of conversation of every family in the mountains, and helps us to make friends where ever
we go. Wow, talk about third world meeting first world! La Mulita was donated to us by Dr. Chris Floyd of Charlotte NC, and refurbished with a new motor by Excel Moter Sports a Kawasaki dealer in Concord, NC. The little mule is a full 4x4 all terrain vehicle, and can carry an incredible load of both volunteers and related gear. Plans are underway to construct a stretcher platform, and a welded roof to keep out the rain. I would like to take this time to thank Dr. Floyd and the folks from Kawasaki, whose efforts will help us to save the lives of many poor Honduran children.
